On August 2, the 2022 Online Training Course for Local Chinese Teachers of Basic Education in Mauritius, hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), organized by Zhejiang Normal University and co-organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Mauritius, started successfully.

Anneta Ghoorah, Director of the Primary School Department of the Ministry of Education of Mauritius; Mr. Song Yongbo, Deputy Director-General of CLEC; Zheng Mengzhuang, Chair of the University Council, Zhejiang Normal University; and Zhang Xinhong, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Song Yongbo said that the relationship between China and Mauritius has a long history. Chinese language education has been growing steadily in Mauritius. Teachers play an important role in improving the quality of Chinese language teaching. This training course aims to further increase the theoretical knowledge and teaching skills of local Mauritian teachers, and to advance their professional development through professional training. He expected that the teachers attending the training would seize this opportunity to enhance themselves by learning in detail, discussing in depth, and continuously strengthen their professional ability. CLEC is ready to work with all parties to deepen cooperation and continue to provide quality teaching resources, facilitating the development of Chinese language education in Mauritius and even Africa.

Anneta Ghoorah expressed thanks to the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, Zhejiang Normal University, and the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, for their support to the work of Chinese language education in Mauritius. He affirmed the important role of Chinese language education in the multicultural system of Mauritius, and hoped that the local teachers who attended the training would benefit from the training and apply it to their future teaching work to achieve fruitful results.

Zheng Mengzhuang introduced Zhejiang Normal University's exchange and cooperation with Africa and the school's international Chinese education work. He pointed out that Zhejiang Normal University has long and good educational cooperation ties with Mauritius, and the university will make efforts to improve the quality of training and continue to help promote the development of Chinese language education in Mauritius.

Zhang Xinhong addressed that this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritius, the training program is of great significance. Chinese language education will certainly become a bridge to further promote exchanges between China and Mauritius, and lay a solid base for in-depth exchanges between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture, science and technology.

This online training consisted of two sessions. African Practice and Research Center for International Chinese Language Education (Zhejiang Normal University), designed a series of targeted courses according to the actual needs of local teachers in Mauritius, covering the Teaching of Chinese Linguistic Elements, Curriculum Organization and Design of Curriculum Content.
