published date: 2022-04-24 views:161

On April 20, the 23rd China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Science and Technology Expo opened in Shouguang of Shandong Province, which is known as the "Hometown of Vegetables in China". In addition to the highly ornamental vegetable varieties such as the tomato tree with a yield of more than 3,000 kg per plant, the sweet potato with a cyclic yield of more than 600 kg in one year, and the "giant" pumpkin of more than 200 kg, you can also see the debut of "Space Plantation" to learn about the "space journey" of vegetables.

Walking into No.10 pavilion of the Vegetable Expo is like walking into a green technology corridor, where all kinds of "fresh technologies" such as Internet of Things management systems, smart plant factories, solar light guide and fiber optic lighting planting, are available. On the north side of the pavilion, there is a "space plantation", where two "space capsules" are built, and the "space cultivation mode" is used to simulate the environment in the universe to grow vegetables. This is the new highlight of this year's expo.

In addition to simulating the cultivation mode in space, the No.10 pavilion has also planted new varieties of vegetables that have been to space. A new space breeding exhibition area has been added to display eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, adding up to 13 varieties of vegetables.

Since 2000, the vegetable expo has been successfully held for 22 consecutive sessions. This year's Expo has a main exhibition area of 450,000 square meters and an indoor exhibition area of 165,000 square meters, including 10 exhibition halls, picking gardens, high-yield cultivation areas in greenhouses, vegetable museums and square exhibition areas. To conform to Covid-19 control measures, this year's expo was held both online and offline.(Cited from chinakongzi.org, source from Xinhua News Agency)
