Bulgarian Students Experience the Charm of Chinese Together

From April 13 to April 14, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria, together with the University of Sofia and the Municipality of Chelopech, organized International Chinese Language Day series of cultural activities to celebrate the upcoming "United Nations Chinese Language Day". The opening ceremony of the International Chinese Language Day was held at the 130-year-old garden of Sofia University on the 14th. Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Mr. Dong Xiaojun and Vice Rector of Sofia University Prof. Stoicheva attended the event and delivered speeches.

Mr. Dong Xiaojun briefly introduced the background and significance of the UN Chinese Language Day, and congratulated the achievements of Chinese language education and international students training at Sofia University. He praised the contribution of Sofia University graduates to the promotion of China-Bulgaria friendship in various fields, and hoped that young students would continue to deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture as well as contemporary China and contribute to the development of China-Bulgaria strategic partnership.

At the opening ceremony, the Chinese and Bulgarian youths performed together, playing the guzheng (Chinese Zither) and singing Chinese songs.

On the same day, a public lecture entitled "Chinese: Known & Unknown" was held at the Centennial Auditorium of Sofia University, attracting numerous young Bulgarian students.

During the event, an event with the theme of "Experience the Charm of Chinese Together" was held in Chelopech, where children learning Chinese dressed in traditional Chinese costumes expressed their love for Chinese language and culture by performing lion dances, reciting Tang poems, singing children's songs, experiencing Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting, and demonstrating tea art.
