"Major Series of Chinese Paintings in pre-Qin, Han, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties" was held in Zhejiang Art Museum a few days ago. The exhibition uses images, words, new media and other means to present more than 1,500 painting files to be published from pre-Qin, Han, Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties, showing the development of ancient Chinese painting, and providing a sound opportunity of aesthetic education for the general public to understand traditional culture.

　　Composed of four sections, the exhibition uses images, words, new media technology and other diversified display methods to present achievements of ancient Chinese paintings. With the strong support of institutions including Dunhuang Research Institute, a team from Zhejiang University used the world's leading 3D grotto restoration technology to restore representative grottoes in China, including the four major grottoes, namely Dunhuang, Yungang, Longmen, and Dazu grottoes, as well as Sichuan Anyue Grottoes and Zhejiang Hangzhou West Lake Grottoes. The grottoes were replicated in equal proportions to real ones and presented in Hangzhou, a Buddhist hot land in Southeast China, so that more people can further understand the far-reaching influence of Chinese grotto art over paintings in different dynasties.
