In Shandong, the nourishment of Confucianism provides natural soil for Confucius’ hometown Qufu in the creative conversion and development of excellent Chinese traditional culture.

     Qufu has creatively proposed the concept of “engagement by all”, diversifying the subjects of engagement and creating new modes of engagement. This allows everyone to jointly develop and share excellent traditional culture. Almost every village in Qufu is equipped with a Confucius school that inherits Confucianism, a New Era Civilization Practice Workstation that integrates education and villager services, a “Harmony” Mediation Room that strives to solve conflicts within the village and the township, and a “List of Good Deeds” that encourages villagers to show kindness and goodness.

     In fact, Shandong has implemented the “project of four virtues (caring, honesty, filial piety and benevolence)” at an in-depth level. 95 demonstration counties and 200 community demonstration sites at the provincial level for the “project of four virtues” have been built. Furthermore, Shandong has hosted activities such as “Five-Good Family” and “Family Style of the Most Beautiful Family” and selected and promoted a group of model figures, such as “Most Beautiful People of Qilu” and “Good People of Shandong”.

     Cultural education is a fundamental and central project. Through diverse forms of activities, Shandong integrates Chinese traditional culture into popular education and social governance. The province is the first to offer the course Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture in schools and universities. 70 schools in Shandong have been selected in the list of national primary and secondary schools for inheritance of excellent Chinese traditional culture; 24,000 rural (community) lecture halls of Confucianism, 154 Ni Shan academies and 2,200 Confucius schools have been built.

     Shandong is working hard to delve into the connotation of excellent traditional culture, spread such culture and develop new paths for practicing it. At the same time, it is making all-out effort to integrate achievements of creatively converting and developing traditional culture into the development of ideological infrastructure of the whole province, carrying forward the “root” and “soul” of the Chinese nation in a better way. At present, new era civilization practice workstations can be found in all counties and 98.1% of townships in Shandong.
