Seminar on a New Development Model of International Chinese

     In the afternoon of December 13, Seminar on a New Development Model of International Chinese Language Education Supported by CLEC Smart Classroom was successfully held on the live-broadcasting platform ChinesePlus. This event is part of the ICLEW 2021.
     The representatives of the foreign partners of the "CLEC Smart Classroom", including Dr. Meili Deng, Founder and Principal of Institute of Mandarin: The Future in Puerto Rico, US; Mr. Yamvwa, President of Sino-Zam Vocational College; Joseph A. Turay, the president of Marconi University in Sierra Leone, and Ye Dongqing, a teacher at the School of Athens in Greece, gave speeches and thanked the Chinese partners, expressing that the establishment of the "CLEC Smart Classroom" would make teaching more vivid and conducive to interaction between teachers and students, and that the "CLEC Smart Classroom" was like a bridge linking them together, and looking forward to more comprehensive cooperation in the future.
     The seminar focused on three topics---- Curriculum Resource Construction for CLEC Smart Classroom, Teachers Team Building for CLEC Smart Classroom, and New Teaching Mode for CLEC Smart Classroom. Constructive and forward-looking views were provided by participants. For example, in the topic of Curriculum Resource Construction, Professor Zhao Yang, Dean of the School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University, said that Chinese stories should be told with simple words, and that online resource construction provides a very large stage for delicate narratives. According to Professor Song Jihua of the School of Artificial Intelligence in Beijing Normal University, the "CLEC Smart Classroom" should focus on constructing corresponding curriculum systems according to the current core resources, which include curriculum systems to support teachers' teaching and students' learning. Meanwhile, the construction of CLEC Smart Classroom requires to expand existing resources, deconstruct more refined content, increase the interactivity of resources, and add the design of scenarios, activities and tasks. Jia Weiwei, Deputy Director of Foreign Language Publishing Division (International Language and Culture Publishing Center) of Higher Education Press, suggested that the "CLEC Smart Classroom" should be built as an open and flexible classroom with abundant learning resources, motivating students to sustainably develop. Intelligent platforms should be based not only on the orientation of technology and market orientation, but also on the innovation of pedagogy and service.
 
     In the topics of teacher team building and new model of teaching, experts put forward many insights, for example, Professor Ding Anqi from East China Normal University put forward three strategies to cope with the changes in educational philosophy, objectives, teaching and teacher-student relationship. Professor Jin Limin, Director of the Confucius Institute Work Office at Beijing Foreign Studies University, introduced three synchronous classroom teaching models, the single-teacher model, the two-teacher synchronous model, and the main classroom teacher + sub-classroom assistant model. Jiang Guoquan, director of the National People-to-People Exchange Research Center for Countries of"the Belt and Road Initiatives" at Capital Normal University, made positive suggestions on how to play a supportive role for international Chinese education with the "CLEC Smart Classroom".
 
     The seminar expanded new ideas on how to build the "CLEC Smart Classroom", and the participants hoped that the "CLEC Smart Classroom", as a new brand of the CLEC to serve the global Chinese language teaching, would become a new platform for students from different countries to learn Chinese, understand China and experience Chinese culture, contributing to the high-quality development of international Chinese language education.
