Professional Degree Core Course of Teaching Chinese to Speak

     On July 19, 2021, the teachers training course on "Chinese Culture and Communication", the core course of the Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages professional degree, organized by China National Committee for Graduate Education in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and hosted by Shandong University, was successfully completed. Mr. Ma Jianfei, Director General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and Deputy Director and Secretary General of China National Committee, attended the completion ceremony and awarded certificates of completion to teachers trained by this core course from 95 training institutions across China. Han Shenghao, Vice President of Shandong University, presided over the ceremony.
     In his speech, Mr. Ma pointed out that the "Chinese Culture and Communication" teachers training course was an important step to strengthen international communication capacity and speed up the curriculum reform of personnel training for international Chinese language education. He emphasized that it is necessary to further raise awareness of the importance of strengthening this international communication capacity; combine the new situation, tasks, requirements and challenges; focus on the fundamental task of international Chinese language education; comprehensively raise the awareness and improve the ability of teachers to serve international communication capacity building; and contribute to the building of the community with shared future for mankind. We should do a good job in the top-level design of the core curriculum, improve the content, and revise the syllabus, so as to realize the international communication of Chinese culture and the synergy of interpretation and promotion. At the same time, it was stressed that further attention should be paid to the integration of international Chinese language education and international communication disciplines by strengthening theoretical research; increasing the organization of training and exchange; teaching seminars, projects, resource platform construction, curriculum demonstration institutions and other work; and comprehensively improving the height, depth, breadth and accuracy of professional teaching work to achieve leapfrog development in building international communication capacity.
     At the closing ceremony, representatives of the students shared their training experience, saying that they had gained a lot from this training in terms of communication, literacy improvement, cultural education and teaching concepts, curriculum content reform, etc. They profoundly realized the importance and necessity of strengthening and improving international communication work under the new situation in the new era.
     The workshop was held from July 16 to 19, 2021. The teachers who participated in the training came from front-line teachers who are teaching the core curriculum of "Chinese Cultural Communication" in 95 institutions authorized to teach Chinese international education, including Shandong University, Renmin University of China and Xiamen University. In particular, experts and scholars from domestic universities, such as Professor Fan Hong from Tsinghua University and Professor Jiang Fei from Beijing Foreign Studies University, were invited to give wonderful lectures combining their teaching experience and cross-cultural communication practice, which broadened the participants' horizons. Participants listened attentively, discussed in depth and exchanged experiences during the construction of the Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages curriculum.
