On the morning of February 9th, Confucius Reserch Institute held the Spring Festival Confucianism Conference. The renowned experts and scholars in Confucianism and Ritual study gathered here, made a thorough discussion around the theme of “Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization and Its Contemporary Value” and the four sub-topics including “Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization and Its Characteristics”, “Coming-of-age Ceremony and Others”, “Confucius Memorial Ceremony and the Sacrificial Ceremony at the Confucian Temple” and “Rebuilding Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization and Cultural Confidence”.
The deputy dean of Confucius Research Institute and associate researcher Liu Xubing presided over the conference, and expressed his respect and regards to the senior officials and masters who have devoted to the development of Confucius Research Institute.
The executive vice director of Propaganda Department of Jining Municipal Party Committee Sun Aimin gave the opening address on behalf of the organizers, introducing the current situation of Jining city and the great significance of Confucianism.
The dean of Confucius Research Institute Yang Chaoming gave the speech of the Nature of Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization and Confidence in Our National Culture, holding that Chinese traditional ritual and music civilization has a long history and constitutes the main part of Confucian culture. In nowadays, we must hold fast to our confidenct in national culture based on our clear cultural awareness in order to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. He elucidated the nature of Chinese traditional ritual and music civilization with three stories about Confucius from Kong Zi Jia Yu and Lunyu.
After the opening speech, the release ceremony of the first version of Xin Li Yue was held. Director of Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization Institute of Qufu Normal University and associate professor Song Lilin gave a speech, introducing the original intention and naming of Xin Li Yue. He hoped that Chinese traditional ritual and music civilization should go to our daily life, keep in pace with the times, and foster the modern gentle Junzi.
The thematic speech was presided over by the compere of CCTV Mr. Li Jiaming. The specially invited expert and director of Center for Chinese Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization of Confucius Research Institute, Taishan Scholar of Shandong Province and professor of Fo Guang University Li Jixiang, the specially invited expert of Confucius Research Institute, Taishan Scholar of Shandong Province and professor of Peking University Gan Chunsong, the specially invited expert of Confucius Research Institute and Nishan scholar of Jining city Cheng Qili, the specially invited expert of Confucius Research Institute and Nishan scholar of Jining city Wang Junlin, the committee council member of
Confucius Research Institute and professor of Tsinghua University Fang Zhaohui gave speeches respectively.
At the question and answer part, the guests discussed on the hot issues on Chinese traditional ritual and music, and replied the answers from the audience about enhancing the education on traditional ritual and music in primary and secondary phase, building rural traditioan ritual and music civilization, distinguishing traditional ritual and music from superstition, whether ritual and music belongs to moral or legal issues.
This conference was jointly sponsored by the Propaganda Department of Jining Municipal Party Committee and Confucius Research Institute, and organized by Qufu Center for Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization, Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization Center of Confucius Research Institute and Traditional Ritual and Music Civilization Institute of Qufu Normal University. This Spring Festival Confucianism Conference constitutes the first of a series of Confucianism confereces. The secretary of Disciplinary Inspection Commission of Confucius Research Institute Hu Zhiping, deputy dean Chen Xiaoxia and the enthusiasts of Chinese traditional culture from all walks of life attended this conference.
