The Series of Qufu History and Culture, for which dean of Confucius Research Institute Researcher Yang Chaoming served as the specially invited advisor and write some parts, was published in November, 2017.
Compiled by the committee of Jining municipal People Political Consultative Conference, The initial batch of Series of Qufu History and Culture included ten volumes each of which contains 250,000 Chinese characters. It covers the six fields such as Confucius and Confucianism, the biographies of the celebrities in Confucius’ hometown, Queli documents, the cultural relics in Qufu, the historical sites in Qufu, and the intangible cultural heritage in Qufu. The History and Culture of Lu State and the Saint Craftsman Lu Ban written by Yang Chaoming were included in the series.
As the birthplace of Confucian culture, Confucius’ hometown Qufu occupies a very important position in Chinese culture and enjoys the reputation of oriental sacred land. The cultural area centering around Qufu both embodies the early Chinese civilizations from Emperor Huang, Shao Hao to Duke Zhou, and generated Confucianism. In the later times after Confucius, Confucius memorial ceremony has never ceased to exist. As the representative of Chinese excellent traditional culture, multiple-angle and systematic study of the culture of Confucius’ hometown is both the necessary choice to enhance our cultural confidenc and plays an important role in building the excellent traditional culture spreading demonstration zone in Qufu.
Researcher Yang Chaoming directed much attention to the study on culture at Confucius’ hometown, and published the History of Lu State and the Cultural History of Lu State many years ago. He proposed to compile The Series of Qufu History and Culture as early as in 2008.
The initial batch of Series of Qufu History and Culture was rich in both content and graphs, has the functions of academic study and cultural popularization, and is the manifestation of the new height of the cultural study in Confucius’ hometown.
