On the morning of January 24th, the third lecture of Chunqiu Forum in 2018 (78th among all) was held at roundtable meeting room of Confucius Research Institute. The specially invited expert of Confucius Research Institute and Nishan Scholar Professor Guo Yi gave the lecture of Searching for the Documents on Lunyu. The deputy deans of Confucius Research Institute Liu Xubing and Chen Xiaoxia, teachers and students from Qufu Normal University and the professionals of our institute listened to the lecture, which was presided over by the vice director of academic exchange department, Nishan Schoar and associate researcher Lu Zequan.
During the lecture, Guo Yi sorted out and elaborated on theme from the two angles of the signs of all the documents on Lunyu, which refers to all the records on Confucius’ words and behaviors before Western Han Dynasty, and the existing documents on Lunyu which includes ten categories such as relative documents in Yizhuan, the Filial Piety, the relative documents in Liji by Dai De and Dai Sheng, the excavated bamboo slips from the Chu Tomb in GuodianHubei Province, relative documents in the excavated bamboo slips of the Warring States collected in Shanghai Museum, relative documents in Xunzi, elative documents in Kong Zi Jia Yu and Kong Congzi and so on.
This is the second one among Professor Guo Yi’s three lectures on Lunyu addressed in Chunqiu Forum this year. Professor Guo Yi’s splendid lecture on Searching for the Documents on Lunyu benefited the audience greatly and aroused their interest and discussion. After the lecture, the participants communicated on such issues as the concept of documents on Lunyu, the evolution of literary forms, the relationship between Confucius and Yijing and so on.
Lu Zequan concluded that Mr. Guo is the first person to put up the concept of documents on Lunyu and obtained extensive attention and discussion in the academic circle. Mr. Guo’s lecture today helped clear up our confusion on that concept and enlightened us in comprehending the three literary forms in Pre-Qin documents.
Chunqiu Forum is a non-profit academic cultural lecture sponsored by Confucius Research Institute, the Secretariat of World Confucian Conference, and New Confucian School, and organized by history and culture department of Qufu Normal University, Confucianism and Regional Culture Research Spread Center of Jining College, “Nishan sacred scenery” and so on. By now, 78 lectures have been given. Dozens of experts and scholars from Chinese mainland, Taiwan, America, Japan, Germany, Austria and so on have given lectures to over 10,000 audiences, which has produced long-lasting and good social reaction.
