On October 25th, Nishan Scholar and the associate researcher of Confucius Research Institute Lu Zequan gave the lecture of On the Transformation of the Outskirt Sacrifice Ceremony in Tang and Song Dynasties as the fourth lecture of Chunqiu Forum at Andong National University of South Korea, by the invitation of honorary dean of Confucius Institute of Andong National University Li Runhe. Over 30 teachers and students from Confucius Institute of Andong National University, Confucius Research Institute, Shandong Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Department, Japanese Philosophy Department, History Department and Ethical Education Department of Andong National University took part in the lecture. Doctor Li Yang from Confucius Research Institute served as the interpreter.
Lu Zequan held that as one form of ritual, which promotes the harmony among Tian, Di and human beings, outskirt sacrifice ceremony constitutes the important manifestation of linking Tian, Di and human beings together. He pointed out that Tang and Song dynasties is the transformation period of the two grand topics around the outskirt sacrifice ceremony, the analysis of which is helpful to understanding the reason of transformation and function change of the Confucian ritual system; the transformation was not only influenced by the Confucian document academic study but also closely linked with the national political order construction; the function gradually transformed from linking Tian and human beings to building secular order.
After the lecture, Lu Zequan and the scholars discussed the issues such as the theory of Tang and Song dynasties reform, the change and continuation of Tang and Song ritual system, the relationship between the ritual system of North Song dynasty and that of South Song dynasty and so on. The scholars and students benefited a lot from this lecture, and hoped that more lectures on Confucianism be held in the future to strengthen the Confucianism exchange and cooperation between China and South Korea.
